Responsible gambling

Gamble Responsibly. Gambler’s Help Line 1800 858 858.

Paddy Wagon Hotel & Bistro has Keno and TAB facilities. There are no gaming machines here. Keno and a bet on the races are there for people who want a punt as part of a night out, and most people play that way. For some people it stops being fun, and that can happen quietly. If that sounds like you, or like someone you care about, the help below is free, confidential, and you do not have to be in crisis to use it.

Taking a break

The Tasmanian Gambling Exclusion Scheme lets you bar yourself from gambling — from this venue, from several, or from every venue in the state. Here that means Keno, and you can be barred from playing while still being welcome for a meal and a drink. The same counsellor can arrange for your TAB betting to be shut off too.

It is arranged through a Gambler’s Help counsellor, who will sit down with you and sort out the paperwork. Start by calling 1800 858 858. An exclusion runs for up to three years and cannot be lifted in the first six months, so it is worth talking through. There is more detail on the Tasmanian Government’s exclusion scheme page.

You can also ask us directly. Speak to whoever is behind the bar and we will keep it between us.

Worried about someone else

The helpline is for you too, not just for the person gambling. If you are worried about a family member you can also apply to have them excluded — the Gambler’s Help counsellors on 1800 858 858 will explain how that works.
